Built on the banks of the Khwai River and nestled amongst a forest of sycamore and leadwood trees, Khwai Bush Camp has a family friendly philosophy that welcomes children of all ages.
Khwai Bush Camp consists of 4 standard and 2 family chalets, all en-suite. There are battery charging facilities in each guest room as well as fans. Here you will enjoy spacious and comfortable thatched accommodation with views over the permanent water source and beyond into the Moremi Game Reserve.
From the sanctuary of a cool, thatched interior and a veranda that overlooks the famed Moremi Game Reserve, one of the richest game viewing areas in Botswana, you are able to watch the magic of Africa unfold. The area offers varied ecosystems – from enchanted forests and undulating grasslands to lush floodplains and meandering lagoons – this is one of the most consistent areas for wildlife encounters year-round.
Enjoy languid afternoons at the sparkling poolside drinking in the serene floodplain surrounds. Share an aperitif around our lively fire circle before tucking into hearty, homespun fare at their family-style feasts.
Activities include guided walking safaris, bird watching, river activities and day and night game drives spotting Africa’s iconic wildlife species – lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, hippo, and giraffe. All the activities led by qualified and passionate guides who will share their knowledge and love of the bush with you. A visit to their neighbouring Khwai village is a cultural highlight. Here, you experience a Botswana safari lodge that cherishes the interests of the Khwai community while honouring the spirit of the pioneer safari explorers. For a Botswana luxury safari that offers a sustainable, community-focused experience visit Khwai Bush Camp.
The Moremi Game Reserve initially consisted mostly of the Mopane Tongue area, but in the 1970s the royal hunting grounds, known as Chief’s Island, were added. The Moremi is home to the most endangered species of large mammals: the cheetah, white rhinoceros, black rhinoceros, African wild dog, and lion. Over 500 bird species (from water birds to forest dwellers) and over a 1,000 species of plants are also recognized in the Moremi. This ecosystem is amongst the richest in Africa and thanks to effective protection, the flora and fauna is relatively undisturbed.
Within the larger UNESCO listed Okavango Delta Game Reserve, Moremi covers about 40% of the Okavango. The Moremi and the Okavango Delta is one of the few interior delta systems that do not directly flow into the ocean or sea. The annual flood makes for a spectacular interaction between water and wildlife, as animals synchronise their cycles with this seasonal flood.
