Perfectly perched on the banks of the Kwando River you will find Lagoon Camp. Nestled beneath towering ebony and marula trees, this heavily forested site is home to a wide range of wildlife. Enjoy spectacular views of hippos and elephants seeking refreshments from the river. The stunning views and close proximity of wildlife all contribute to the pervading sense of calm at Lagoon.
This lodge is located in the Kwando Reserve which has earned a reputation for epic game sightings and large herds of elephants and buffalo, therefore, attracting the attention of large predators. The Lagoon wild dog pack regularly den close to the camp and there are excellent viewing opportunities. Seasonally large herds of elephants drink at the river bank near to the camp in full view of the main deck, while pods of hippos are commonly seen languidly sunbathing in the water.
The lodge boasts 9 expansive tents that features a private deck, living area and bathroom with picturesque views over the river. What better way to wake up than with a view of the beautiful riverine? Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with both an indoor and outdoor shower, as well as a bathtub for an enjoyable afternoon soak.
The main areas of the camp include a bar and sitting area, an outdoor deck with a swing, a dining area, a curio shop, an orientation centre, and a cosy second-level library overlooking the river. Adjacent to the main area is the family tent which has two entrances (one to the twin bedroom and the other to the main bedroom and living area). The family tent shares the same en-suite bathroom facilities.
Looking for a unique experience? Then the afternoon river cruise is perfect for you. The unique double-decker boat allows several guests the opportunity to drift along the river while enjoying spectacular views of mammal and birdlife while sipping a sundowner of your choice.
One of Botswana's most famous game reserves, the Kwando Reserve offers outstanding game viewing in an exclusive environment. Diverse activities are on offer, including day and night drives and walking and boating safaris. The concentration of elephant and buffalo herds here beggars belief, and vast numbers of predators give rise to plenty of explosive predator action. This is one of the finest places in Africa to view big game.
The Kwando Reserve has also become recognised as one of the premier places in Africa to view the endangered African Wild Dog - over the last eight years, dogs have denned here every year. If you travel between July and August, the chance of seeing pups is high and viewing dogs at any time of the year is a real possibility. It is also worth noting that the elephant population in the high season months (August, September and October) is so high that the camps often stop walking safaris completely but this is not the case at Kwando Safaris Camps! Guests can enjoy tailormade walking safaris in safe spaces where you can observe the smaller creatures that make up the ecosystem. Big game is in abundance in this reserve.
