Nestled in the Waterberg mountains and within the Welgevonden Game Reserve, one of South Africa’s Premier, Malaria Free, Big 5 Game Reserves, Sekala Private Game Lodge offers an experience to be savoured.
Guests look forward to uninterrupted early morning sunrise coffee off the main deck to awaken the senses, followed by an early morning game drive. The bush comes alive on your morning game drives and it is not uncommon to see Lion or Elephant just a stone's throw from the game viewing vehicle going through their early morning routines. The reserve is home to the Big Five (Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard & Rhino) as well as Cheetah, Brown Hyena, 15 different types of buck, and more than 50 other species of mammal so you’re guaranteed an exceptional game drive experience.
You can also see a wide variety of game at the private watering hole from the lodge or walk down to the hide to view the animals up close. In the evening, just imagine a night under the stars.
Sekala Lodge consists of a spacious main lodge including lounges, bar area, dining room, library and outside entertainment area, 2 rock swimming pools and a conference centre for business meetings. Accommodation includes 5 separate Premier Suites which sleep two adults in each and an executive Family Suite (4 persons) available on request for a private family experience. Each Suite has a private outdoor shower, a fridge and tea and coffee facilities.
Sekala offers full board, breakfast, lunch and dinner including a welcoming drink and sundowner drinks on the afternoon game drive. Tea, coffee and water are available at all times. All other drinks for your account. All meals will be prepared by our resident chef and will include a boma dinner under the African sky, of course, weather permitting.
Perfectly situated in the middle of the reserve, renowned for the best game viewing in Welgevonden, you can be assured of a memorable safari experience and coupled with 5-star treatment at the lodge – a holiday that memories are made of.
The Welgevonden Game Reserve, located just three hours’ north of Johannesburg in the Limpopo Province’s Waterberg plateau, is one of the most ruggedly scenic reserves in South Africa, characterised by rolling hills, rugged gorges and grassy plains.
Aptly meaning ‘well found’, the Welgevonden is unlike anywhere else on earth, a true wilderness area with excellent game viewing and stunning scenery. Enjoy this mountain bushveld environment with roaring rivers and sweeping horizon views. The reserve is located at high altitude, enjoys a mild climate and is Malaria free making it worth a visit any time of the year.
As a result of the reserve’s diverse landscapes, visitors can enjoy Big Five sightings, in addition to encounters with over 50 mammal species, 300 bird species and some of the bush’s most beautiful wildflowers that make their appearance in early spring.
The Welgevonden also boasts one of Africa’s largest populations of white rhino on a private reserve, with such unusual species as brown hyena, aardwolf and aardvark also located within the reserve. The reserve has never been a hunting area and as such game viewing is up and close and personal. In addition to great game viewing, there is also ancient San Rock Art.
This is Africa at its most interesting and at its best.
