Eagle Island Lodge, a Belmond Safari lodge, Botswana, is the ultimate Okavango Delta water and land experience-focused safari lodge.
Eagle Island Lodge is one of Botswana’s original safari lodges, perched on a private island encircled by some of the deepest stretches of the Okavango Delta, one of the world's largest inland water systems and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Each of the lodge's 12 new rooms is 82 square meters in size and boasts its own plunge pool and outdoor deck. Offering contemporary luxury, every detail has been carefully thought-out.
The centrepiece is an over-sized bed with views onto the Delta. Each room features a luxurious bathroom with a large bathtub, double vanity unit and a walk-in wardrobe, as well as a walled outdoor shower with a window looking onto the Delta.
The lodge is decorated to reflect an explorer’s base. Design highlights in the twelve spacious deluxe tented rooms include oversized beds with views of the delta, large outdoor decks with a vista, private plunge pools, luxurious bathrooms with large tubs, indoor & outdoor showers, relaxation and reading nook, and walk-in wardrobes.
Fully rebuilt public areas include a stylish dining area with a pizza oven, a lounge area with an artisan-style bar, a library, a separate campfire area and the Fish Eagle Bar which is located directly on the water caused by the seasonal floodplains. Local artisans and materials were used throughout the renovations.
The lodge offers a variety of essentially water and land focused safari activities including motorboat safaris, barge cruises, mokoro safaris (a local canoe), fishing, as well as walking safaris, game drives, horseback safaris, village walks and the ultimate air safari experience by helicopter – a highlight of any guests’ stay!
There is an abundance of bird and aquatic wildlife around the lodge, complemented by larger mammals such as elephant, buffalo, hippo, crocodile, as well as the ever-elusive big cats that have made this island their home.
The Okavango Delta is a vast inland river delta in northern Botswana. It's known for its sprawling grassy plains, which flood seasonally, becoming a lush animal habitat. The Moremi Game Reserve occupies the east and central areas of the region. Here, dugout canoes are used to navigate past hippos, elephants and crocodiles. On dry land, wildlife includes lions, leopards, giraffes and rhinos.
