Ishasha Wilderness Camp is an idyllic retreat for people who truly enjoy the wilderness, coupled with superb accommodation and exceptional service.

The thatched central lounge and dining area provides a cosy and relaxed space for guests, although meals are often served ‘al fresco’ beside the river. In the evening, the outdoor fireplace beside the river is the perfect place for guests to relax over sundowners and share their day’s experiences. Each of the ten spacious framed canvas rooms, privately nestled along the riverbank, is comfortably furnished and feature en-suite bathrooms. Wake to the delicious aroma of morning coffee served on your private verandah.

Resident troops of Black-and-White Colobus and Vervet monkeys abound and if you are lucky you’ll spot Henry, the lone hippo, wallowing lazily below our viewing deck. Game roams freely through camp, with Elephant making frequent guest appearances. Designed to respect and complement the environment, this low impact, eco-sensitive camp is really something special, and after a few days unwinding here, you may well not want to leave.

On early morning and late afternoon game drives, either in your safari vehicle or for fly-in guests – in a dedicated camp open safari vehicle, you may explore the area’s game routes in search of the different species. The area is still pristine and untouched with only a handful of game vehicles found around the area at any time. Being the only camp within the park, it offers the flexibility of timings for drives allowing guests to maximise their game sightings in this area.

About the Queen Elizabeth National Park

Visitors will find it hard to believe that Queen Elizabeth National Park was ravaged by war some decades ago. Uganda’s best-loved park has bounced back from its turbulent history and is now the country’s most visited park. The park is home to tree-climbing lions, 600 species of birds, and a magnificent landscape of acacia woodland, savannah, and swamps dotted by crater lakes, cones, and other volcanic features.

Under 400km from Uganda’s capital and largest city, Kampala, Queen Elizabeth National Park’s boundaries protect a plethora of wildlife sure to make every safari-goer’s dreams come true. The lakeshore is dotted with pink-backed pelicans and wallowing hippos, while elephants and leopards wander along the forest grassland. The park’s Ishasha plains see unaware Ugandan kob grazing near fig trees in which tree-climbing lions wait ready to pounce.

Game drives and scenic nature walks are the order of the day, while boat cruises along Lake Edward will bring eager visitors even closer to the park’s thirsty and water-dwelling inhabitants. Queen Elizabeth’s volcanic terrain is a photographer’s delight, while birders won’t know where to look. Visitors can reach the park by road from Kampala or by flying to Kasese Airport or the park’s airstrip.
