As night falls, the desert becomes the main attraction. The NamibRand is an International Dark Sky Reserve, making it one of the world's most spectacular places for stargazing. Each Kwessi Dunes chalet features a private open-air star-gazer room, allowing guests to sleep beneath an uninterrupted canopy of stars.

Stretching across more than 200,000 hectares of pristine desert wilderness, the NamibRand Nature Reserve was established to conserve this remarkable corner of the Namib Desert. Its landscape encompasses rolling sand dunes, gravel plains, dry riverbeds, grasslands and dramatic mountain ranges, creating a strikingly diverse desert environment.

The reserve is particularly celebrated for its exceptionally dark skies and was designated an International Dark Sky Reserve, making stargazing one of the defining experiences of a visit. Its wildlife has evolved remarkable adaptations to survive in the harsh desert environment, with gemsbok, springbok, zebra, jackals, bat-eared foxes and other species thriving amongst the dunes.
