Ekuthuleni Lodge is a wilderness destination that invites you to experience pure African luxury. Translated as "place of peace", the lodge lives up to its name by offering exclusive accommodations for families or a small group of guests, along with an extraordinary safari experience in the Big Five Welgevonden Private Game Reserve.
Ekuthuleni Lodge is supported by rock formations on the southern and north-eastern escarpments, offering 180-degree views of the stunning savannah plains.
Five private thatched Luxury Suites feature double beds, en-suite bathrooms with a large bathtub, double vanity, and outdoor shower; indoor seating, as well as glass doors that open onto private patios complete with loungers and deck chairs.
The Family Suite is luxurious and spacious and boasts a main bedroom, two bathrooms, and a loft area which features two single beds - perfect for the kids.
The lodge facilities include a lounge area, dining area, bar, swimming pool, outdoor boma, and a game viewing deck.
During your stay at Ekuthuleni, you will venture out on early morning and late afternoon/evening game drives conducted in open safari vehicles and led by professional rangers.
Guided bush walks provide the opportunity to learn more about the fauna and flora and the smaller wondrous creatures living on the reserve. The bushmen paintings are a must-see during your stay.
The Welgevonden Reserve is home to over 50 mammal species, 300 bird species, and 5500 plants that are endemic to Southern Africa. Adjoining the Marakele National Park, this unfenced sanctuary sees wildlife such as lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, hyena, rhino and the rare aardwolf, roam freely between the two reserves.
Ekuthuleni Lodge is ideal for solo explorers, couples and families looking for a luxury safari experience that is within easy reach.
The Welgevonden Game Reserve, located just three hours’ north of Johannesburg in the Limpopo Province’s Waterberg plateau, is one of the most ruggedly scenic reserves in South Africa, characterised by rolling hills, rugged gorges and grassy plains.
Aptly meaning ‘well found’, the Welgevonden is unlike anywhere else on earth, a true wilderness area with excellent game viewing and stunning scenery. Enjoy this mountain bushveld environment with roaring rivers and sweeping horizon views. The reserve is located at high altitude, enjoys a mild climate and is Malaria free making it worth a visit any time of the year.
As a result of the reserve’s diverse landscapes, visitors can enjoy Big Five sightings, in addition to encounters with over 50 mammal species, 250 bird species and some of the bush’s most beautiful wildflowers that make their appearance in early spring.
The Welgevonden also boasts one of Africa’s largest populations of white rhino on a private reserve, with such unusual species as brown hyena, aardwolf and aardvark also located within the reserve. The reserve has never been a hunting area and as such game viewing is up and close and personal. In addition to great game viewing, there is also ancient San Rock Art.
This is Africa at its most interesting and at its best.
