Wildwaters Lodge is set along the unique Kalagala Island and lies mid-stream within the mighty River Nile in Uganda, around 25km downstream from Jinja in Eastern Uganda. The lodge can only be reached by boat, allowing guests to take park in an adventure as soon as they arrive. Uniquely perched on granite rocks with dramatic and exciting rapids, Wildwaters clearly lives up to its name.
Along the river and being in the hub of Jinga, guests are treated to an array of fun and adventurous activities. These include heart-pounding white-water rafting, bungee jumping, horse riding or fishing. Wildwaters is the perfect base to explore more than 1000 bird species that Uganda is quite famous for. Spot turacos, cuckoos, hawks, eagles and more. You might also spot giant otters and monitor lizards in the water.
For couples and honeymooners, Wildwaters Lodge offers a relaxing and intimate space to enjoy some quiet time. The best way to take in the pure tranquillity of Wildwaters is to take advantage of the spa nestled over this infamous river. The sounds on the mighty Nile are quite hypnotic and calming so Wildwaters offers an experience for all the senses. For photographic enthusiasts, nothing beats these views. The lodge is open year-round affording guests the opportunity to enjoy this piece of paradise during all seasons.
The ten stand-alone elevated timber-floor and super-spacious luxury suites are nestled in the rainforest with amazing river views. Each are linked by raised wooden walkways to the restaurant, bar and library, and feature glass-fronted windows, locally handmade furniture, stylish bathrooms with rain showers, and secluded wooden decks with daybeds and romantic free-standing open-air bathtubs. There are also delicious sunrise breakfasts and candle-lit three-course dinners and a lovely swimming pool cantilevered above the river in the attractive main communal lodge area.
Famous as the historic source of the Nile River, Jinja is now the adrenaline capital of East Africa. Get your fix of white-water rafting, kayaking, quad biking, mountain biking and horse riding in a gorgeous natural setting. The Nile River's world-famous rapids are under threat, however. In 2011 the Bujagali Hydroelectric Project buried around half of the rapids under a giant reservoir. Although the government has pledged to not further dam the river, Uganda still needs energy and so a new hydroelectric plant is planned for Kalagala Falls. Though worker strikes and faulty construction have it behind schedule for now, it's expected that the Isimba Dam will flood some key rapids and even an island lodging as early as October 2018. It's not the end of rafting though. Meanwhile locals keep pushing to keep Jinja's tourism industry alive with offerings that have wisely begun to diversify.
