Mboma Island Expeditions Camp is a breath-taking piece of pristine paradise. Situated in a remote area of the game rich Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta. Mboma Island Expeditions is set on the floodplains of the meeting point of the Delta’s fresh waters and the Moremi’s Savannah Terrain. Therefore, Mboma is ideal for both water and land-based safaris. This is a perfect destination for guests to enjoy a charming African and authentic Mobile Camp that promises to deliver a wild experience in the heart of the Delta.
This magical Island camp boasts 5 light Meru-style canvas tents fitted with twin beds, and an en-suite open-air bathroom. The camp is entirely environmentally friendly featuring solar power, bucket showers and eco-toilets. All tents are furnished using the finest linen accompanied with many comforts of home. The décor is in perfect harmony with its surroundings, boasting neutral tones and bold pops of colour that reflect the spirit of Botswana. The Meru tents are joined by a network of lantern-lined pathways, and the main areas include a boma, safari dining tent and lounge, all quintessential elements of a classic safari.
At night you can hear the powerful roars from lions which echo across the flat landscape. There are several cat families in the area, therefore there is a high chance of spotting a few local prides while out on game drives. This region also boasts high concentrations of elephants. Because Moremi’s ecosystem is so diverse, the team at Mboma have ensured that all aspects of safaris are covered, from mokoro to boating and game drives. Stay at breath-taking Mboma and immerse yourself in the fascinating ecosystem of this World Heritage Site.
The Moremi Game Reserve initially consisted mostly of the Mopane Tongue area, but in the 1970s the royal hunting grounds, known as Chief’s Island, were added. The Moremi is home to the most endangered species of large mammals: the cheetah, white rhinoceros, black rhinoceros, African wild dog, and lion. Over 500 bird species (from water birds to forest dwellers) and over 1,000 species of plants are also recognized in the Moremi. This ecosystem is amongst the richest in Africa. And thanks to effective protection, the flora and fauna are relatively undisturbed.
Within the larger UNESCO listed Okavango Delta Game Reserve, Moremi covers about 40% of the Okavango. The Moremi and the Okavango Delta is one of the few interior delta systems that do not directly flow into the ocean or sea. The annual flood makes for a spectacular interaction between water and wildlife, as animals synchronize their cycles with this seasonal flood.
