The Namib Outpost is situated in the Namib Tsaris Nature Reserve, Namibia, a private sanctuary committed to preserving the unique and delicate desert ecosystem. This remote location offers stunning views of the renowned Namib-Naukluft National Park, which features the Namib Sand Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site encompassing Sossusvlei, Deadvlei, Dune 45, and Sesriem Canyon.
Nestled within this 7,000-hectare reserve, Namib Outpost greets visitors with warm, natural hospitality. Guests can take in the expansive panoramic views from one of the 12 Suites or from the main House, which includes a restaurant, lounge, and pool terrace, all beautifully positioned at the base of a mountain. The surrounding plains often host roaming wildlife in the vast savannah. The Suites at Namib Outpost provide a high level of privacy, comfort, and space, with each offering uninterrupted views of the Namib Desert's wide plains. The outdoor areas of the suites are uniquely designed with natural stone privacy walls to ensure an undisturbed panorama.
The Lodge combines a relaxed hospitality with a natural ambiance. Visitors can sometimes spot wildlife roaming the open desert plains and grasslands. A variety of activities are available, including excursions to Sossusvlei, horseback safaris, sundowner drives, and hikes. The newly added Massage Lounge offers a carefully curated selection of relaxing massages.
The Conservancy was established in 2010 by Landscape Conservationist Swen Bachran. It acts as a crucial buffer against the extreme desert conditions and provides an essential refuge for wildlife during the dry season. Over eight years of dedicated effort to undo sixty years of unsuitable farming practices—such as removing 89 km of internal fencing, installing wildlife watering points, improving road networks, rehabilitating land, and reintroducing native wildlife — have transformed the Conservancy into one of the region's most scenic and ecologically robust areas.
The Conservancy features gravel plains, mountainous regions with dry river valleys, and a large elevated plateau overlooking the desert. It now supports some of the area's largest wildlife populations, including Oryx, Springbok, Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra, Burchell’s Zebra, Kudu, Hartebeest, Giraffe, Steenbok, Klipspringer, Bat-eared Fox, and Aardwolf, along with predators like Leopard, Cheetah, and Spotted Hyena. Efforts are ongoing to acquire adjacent land to expand the Conservancy and to remove fences bordering other conservation-minded areas.
