Somalisa Camp & Somalisa Acacia

Somalisa Camp & Somalisa Acacia, is situated in Hwange, which is also known as ‘the land of the giants’ due to its big elephant herds. Both Somalisa Camp & Somalisa Acacia are set on a private concession within the infamous Hwange National Park. Tucked away under the dappled shade of an acacia grove and set along the edge of an ancient seasonal floodplain, these camps offer some of the most breathtaking views of the golden savannah.

Somalisa Camp offers seven elegant sail tents. This is a place of simple luxury that focuses on providing an epic African safari experience that exceeds your dreams. With only seven tents, this intimate retreat is perfect for relaxing with friends and family. Each tent boasts comfortable amenities such as fans, battery charging stations, wood-burning fireplace and a private viewing deck. The bathroom takes its inspiration from the romance of yesteryear, offering an indoor and outdoor bathroom with a coppery slipper-style bathtub and endless views of the plains beyond.

With a full solar power farm and water purity system which allows the camp to recycle 80% of water used. Somalisa Camp & Somalisa Acacia is leading the way in eco-friendly safari accommodation and has been awarded the first GOLD Green Tourism Certification in Zimbabwe.

For families with younger children, Somalisa Acacia is the perfect Hwange Safari Experience. This is also great for small groups and safari-goers of all kinds. This family camp is located to the west of sister camp Somalisa. The camp comprises of a lounge, dining room, boma, swimming pool and its own elephant drinking pool with up-close encounters and incredible photographic opportunities with elephants. The 2 family tents feature inter-leading walkways between the parents and children’s rooms. These rooms are also en-suite as well as the other 2 standard sail tents. Each tent includes gauze sling doors which give 180-degree views of the surrounding bush.

The core focus of this camp is to provide families with an outstanding safari experience. Many African Bushcamp Lodges have child specialist guides that provide practical and educational activities for the kids and an adventure that will delight every generation. The kiddies can enjoy nature walks around the camp, storytelling, cultural arts and crafts as well as cooking classes. There is also a focused club called the Ngwana Club that creates an educational yet fun environment for all children.

About the Hwange National Park

One of Africa’s top national parks, Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe’s northwest should be on any safari lover’s bucket list. Roaming Hwange’s savanna grasslands and woodlands are the Big Five and 100 other species of mammals – the park has the biggest diversity of mammals out of the world’s national parks. The Belgium-sized park is also home to some 50 000 elephants and is known for regular sightings of cheetah, leopard and lion, as well as one of Africa’s largest populations of the endangered wild dog and rare species such as roan and sable. Birdwatchers will be impressed with the 500 species recorded here.

Visiting Hwange during the dry winter months of July to October guarantees spectacular wildlife sightings, as animals gather around the man-made waterholes in the park to drink.

One of the big draws of Hwange is that it’s easily accessible – you can fly into Victoria Falls and either hire a car or get a road transfer to the park, an hour’s drive away. You can drive most of the park’s roads in a 2x4 vehicle, and there are many options of places to stay to suit a range of budgets – everything from campsites to luxury safari lodges.
