The Zambezi National Park is a 56,000-hectare park, regarded as one of the most beautiful and lush parks in Zimbabwe. The park is named after the mighty Zambezi River, which forms the northern border, where the park neighbours parts of Zimbabwe and Zambia.
The Zambezi National Park is home to a wide range of African wildlife, including lion, elephant, buffalo and leopard. You may also see antelope such as kudu, eland, waterbuck and, if you are very lucky, the rare sable. The more frequent sightings include warthog, zebra and impala, and at the riverside, you may see crocodile, hippo and a variety of water birds such as the goliath heron, the long-toed plover and various species of kingfisher.
The Zambezi National Park is very rewarding for bird lovers, with more than 400 recorded species including the African skimmer, the half-collared kingfisher and the collared palm-thrush.
The park is a fisherman’s paradise, with 75 species of fish found in its rivers. The most famous of these is the fighting tiger-fish, which can get up to 15kg in weight and has the reputation of being the greatest fighting freshwater fish. Other popular angling fish in the park include upper Zambezi yellowfish, yellow-belly bream, African pike and silver barbel.
