Your African dream desert vacation becomes real with Wolwedans. They strive to set an example in conservation-centred, sustainable tourism. All camps at Wolwedans are designed to minimize environmental impact, exploring innovative building techniques, and utilizing sustainable technologies.
Their Collection of Camps nestles into the dunes and is set against a backdrop of diverse and breath-taking desert scenery. Located in the heart of NamibRand Nature Reserve in southern Namibia, their elegant safari camps provide the perfect base from which to embark on exciting safari activities or simply relax and enjoy the grandeur of the pro-Namib Landscape.
The Wolwedans Dune Camp provides a more down-to-earth, yet stylish, experience. It has an unparalleled natural charm, which courts the young and more adventurous traveller. Positioned on the edge of a 250-metre-high dune, the Dune Camp sleeps a maximum of 16 guests in a totally pristine setting. The tents are pitched on wooden platforms and are comfortable and spacious including a private bathroom. A generous deck allows for safe sleep-outs under the stars, imparting a rather civilised camping experience.
The main tent houses a lounge, dining area and an open-plan kitchen where you can chat to the desert chef, while he prepares lavish meals. Enjoy a cold drink around the campfire on the sundowner deck, where fellow travellers can be met, and stories of the day will make their rounds in true African tradition.
Soar the desert skies in a hot air balloon, embark on a fly-in day safari to some of the most remote natural wonders in Namibia or experience the true magnitude of NamibRand on a walking safari. Whether you discover nature’s miracles on foot, by land rover or from the air you will be astounded by the multi-faceted desert habitats, home to the most intriguing desert-adapted flora and fauna in this corner of the African continent. Scenic drives and/or flights and nature walks with resident field guides reveal the fascinating wonders of the NamibRand Nature Reserve as do picnics in the wild, sundowners on the dunes and dinners by candlelight.
To enhance wellbeing during your stay, Wolwedans offers you the services of a seasonal massage therapist specialising in Swedish massage, Marula Oil Massage, Indian Head Massage and Foot Massage. Manicures & pedicures as well as facials are also provided for the women (or men) who would like to enjoy their Namibian desert safari in style.
NamibRand Nature Reserve, a vast privately owned reserve covering almost 200 000 hectares bordering the Namib Naukluft Park, is situated south of Sossusvlei in southwestern Namibia. The NamibRand Nature Reserve is a non-profit private nature reserve. All landowners belonging to the Reserve have signed agreements and adopted a constitution that sets aside the land for conservation – now and in the future. The Reserve is financially self-sustaining mainly through high quality, low- impact tourism.
NamibRand Nature Reserve is synonymous with some of Africa's most breath-taking locations. The special attraction of the reserve is the diversity of landscape. Virtually all facets of the Namib are represented here, creating a living tapestry of colours and shapes that makes it a visual utopia for artists and photographers. Four distinct habitats are found on the NamibRand Nature Reserve: dunes and sandy plains, inselbergs and mountains, gravel plains, and sand and gravel plains interface. Each habitat has its own dominant vegetation and associated flora.
Large mammals that roam this reserve include kudu, Hartman's and Burchell's zebra, giraffe, klipspringer, steenbok, hartebeest, and baboon. Predators include leopard, spotted and brown hyena, black-backed jackal, aardwolf, bat-eared fox, Cape fox, African wildcat, caracal, and genet. To date more than 150 bird species have been identified.
