The oldest of Cape Dutch farms, Babylonstoren is set at the foot of Simonsberg in the Franschhoek wine valley. With a fruit and vegetable garden of beauty and diversity, coupled with unique accommodations, sublime food, and wine, guests are treated to an oasis of luxury and fine living. Every aspect of Babylonstoren – including the contemporary Farm Hotel & Spa, the Farm Shop, and Restaurants – is led by the ever-changing tapestry and botanical diversity of the garden.
Guests are spoilt for choice with the option of the Hotel or the Farmhouse, offering a variety of accommodations to suit all needs. In addition, Babylonstoren also offers accommodation in Koornhuis and the Owner’s House. The Farm Hotel has 13 guest cottages next to the garden, of which seven have basic kitchens. These were newly built in the Cape Dutch architectural style on the footprints of the original laborers’ cottages.
Set beneath a canopy of trees, the Farmhouse combines authentic architecture with modern design. Each room offers a botanical theme featuring a four-poster king-size bed, en-suite marble bathrooms, and large walk-in cupboards. Each room is fitted with a cast-iron stove, contemporary accessories, and furniture. The Fynbos Cottages offer a luxurious en-suite bathroom and lounge area, a hearty fireplace, and bookshelves filled with a wonderful selection.
The Fynbos Family House is an elegant, exclusive-use home in Cape Dutch style in the heart of the Cape Winelands. Designed to offer families and friends an intimate shared space and the relaxed freedom to tailor-make their days any way they choose, this secluded spot is a peaceful retreat like no other. Accommodating up to 10 guests in 5 en-suite bedrooms, with a fully equipped kitchen, spacious lounge, private pool, and courtyard. The 5-bedroom Manor House dates back to 1777. The interior has been beautifully restored to its former glory but with a definite contemporary touch. All rooms have a king-size bed, with two of the rooms having the option of twin beds.
Established over 300 years ago by the Huguenot settlers, pristine natural and architectural brilliance is found at every corner of Franschhoek. The magnificent Franschhoek Valley offers world-class wine estates, tastings, and cellar tours nestled between towering mountains and beautiful vineyards. The picturesque traditional French village hosts some of the best cuisines from internationally recognized gourmet chefs. Of South Africa’s top ten restaurants, three are in Franschhoek and there is a choice of more than thirty different places to wine and dine. Franschhoek is also celebrated for its unique boutique shopping experience.
