Framed by the iconic Table Mountain and celebrating uninterrupted views of the city of Cape Town below, a more spectacular location for a luxury hotel quite simply doesn’t exist. An eclectic mix of intimate luxury and inspired design elevates Camissa House to an experiential masterpiece. Sister to the award-winning MannaBay Hotel, Camissa House is destined to take the world by storm. Camissa, a name given to this area of Cape Town by its first inhabitants, the Khoi people, means “Place of Sweet Water.” It is this life-giving stream, flowing directly past our hotel, which prompted the Dutch to settle here, thus giving birth to the city of Cape Town as we know it today.
Stepping out of the hotel, it is not hard to see where Camissa House’s design inspiration has been sourced. Table Mountain is on our doorstep and is the canvas for the Cape Floral Kingdom, one of the world’s great centres of terrestrial biodiversity. Camissa House is a celebration of Africa’s Cape, its heritage, its meandering history connecting mountain and sea, past to future and humanity to the earth.
Camissa has eight rooms which each flaunt magnificent views of the city’s most iconic sights, perfectly complementing the tranquillity inherent of the design, the ancient history that sparked its inception and the timeless source of modern life that continues to stem from its spectacular surroundings. All rooms are air-conditioned and feature a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth speaker, selected family games, hairdryers and flat irons and heated flooring and rails.
Hotel facilities include a rooftop bar and entertainment area, an infinity pool with views of the city and harbour, an atrium with a glass ceiling and views of Table Mountain and in-room media entertainment.
The hotel can be booked exclusively to accommodate up to 16 adults in 8 rooms.
Oranjezicht is a stylish little village, popular with the arty and trendy set, lying in the foothills of Table Mountain. Homes here are large and gracious with enviable views of Table Mountain, the foreshore and the distant Hottentots Holland Mountains.
Kloof Street, and the vibey restaurant and café culture, is within walking distance of Oranjezicht - although be prepared for the climb on the return journey. Getting into the city centre is a mere five minutes and you’re in the heart of bohemian Long Street, surrounded by buildings rich in history, restaurants, bistros and cafés, and various museums and galleries that will keep you entertained for the better part of two days.
It’s only 10 minutes’ drive from Oranjezicht to the Table Mountain cableway, just off Kloof Nek, and over the other side of the mountain are the Cape Town beaches of the Atlantic Ocean – Camps Bay and Clifton – that offer fantastic swimming and sunbathing opportunities.
