dHoek - The Karoo Sanctuary is a tranquil farm retreat situated in the beautiful Karoo at the foot of the mountains on the outskirts of Barrydale in the Klein Karoo, South Africa.
Accommodating up to eight guests, this heritage retreat features four luxury bedrooms in total and three bathrooms, each designed with unique pieces of art and classic Karoo tones introduced through fabrics and rugs. The main house features two bedrooms, each en-suite with direct access to the garden and mountain views. The cottage is a short distance from the main house and features two bedrooms with King beds and a separate, shared bathroom.
One of the greatest advantages of dHoek is its stunning location on the border between Overberg and the start of the Karoo. This tranquil stretch of farmland offers exceptional views of clear skies, rolling hills and clean, crisp air, not forgetting the golden rays that beam through the Karoo in the late afternoons. It is here that guests can sit in quiet contemplation as dusk settles over the hills and a fading sunset transforms into a sky full of stars.
Undisturbed relaxation is the main theme of dHoek where guests are invited to take a refreshing dip in the pool or enjoy the shade of the surrounding olive trees. Local attractions include soaking in the healing mineral waters of the natural Warmwaterberg hot springs and discovering untamed wildlife in the Touwsberg Private Game Reserve
Barrydale is a charming village situated on the border of the Overberg andthe Klein Karoo in the Western Cape that has historical orchids, farms and vineyards with welcoming locals and relaxed atmosphere. The reserve falls within the Cape Floral Kingdom, encompassing three significant biomes: Nama Karoo, Succulent Karoo and Fynbos. Caring custodians have restored the reserve to pristine fynbos and succulent vegetation and now boast an impressive diversity of succulent plant species.
Iconic Karoo species such as Brown Hyena, Aardvark, Oryx and Klipspringer occur naturally in this unique landscape, and herds of Eland, Springbok, Wildebeest, and Giraffe roam the parched plains of the “Klein Karoo” as they did centuries ago. Aft
This unique project now has an opportunity to showcase the distinctive landscape and ecosystem as nature intended it to be, with the mountains, rivers, plains, and vegetation coming back to life. The night skies offer an alternative to tech-powered entertainment with a nightly show of spectacular stargazing and astrophotography opportunities. Mont Eco embraces and reflects the rhythms of the Karoo.
