Kateka: be blessed. Translated from Tsonga, a language spoken in the region where Kateka is situated.
Here, the biodiversity of wildlife is unrivalled and guests will have the opportunity to see iconic African animals in natural, pristine habitats. Kateka has access to explore over 16,000 hectares within the reserve, home not only to big game but expansive views, exceptional birdlife and all manner of creatures, great and small.
Time spent at Kateka will have you breathing out and tuning in to the ways of the wild. Out on a game drive, search for the flick of an ear or the swish of a tail in the bush. Feel the thrill of a sighting, the discovery of a hiding spot, and the satisfaction of spending time with wildlife in pristine natural habitat. Let the perfume of wild sage, knobthorn blossoms or the unmistakable rich scent of rain on African soil permeate your safari, these are signature scents of the wild. After dark, listen for the whoop of a lone hyena, the peal of a pearl-spotted owl trilling through the night. Let these wild sounds lull you to sleep.
With an unusually low density of vehicles, this region of Klaserie sets the ideal scene for a holistic wilderness experience not found elsewhere in Greater Kruger.
Explore the Klaserie on a guided game drive, with plenty of opportunities for excellent game viewing and wildlife photography. Enjoy your morning coffee in the crisp air out in the bush and end the day with evening sundowners as the sky changes colours.
Unwind from your safari activities in our wellness centre, where our wellness team will treat you to a variety of treatments. Under the expert supervision of one of our talented wellness experts, let the calming, natural sounds of the bush guide your rooftop yoga session above the spa.
Prioritise wellness on your safari with a session in our gym, kitted out with top-of-the-range F45 equipment. Classes will be given in line with trending global fitness spaces, with views over the surrounding bushveld. Make use of the infra-red Himalayan salt sauna, or the ice plunge pool if you dare, finishing off with a dip in our indoor heated jacuzzi.
Enjoy our expertly prepared meals in a variety of settings at Kateka. Delight in a rooftop dinner in the fresh air, while the Milky Way does a slow dance across the inky sky, or take your dinner by the fire, the way meals are meant to be shared in Africa. Dine in style in the wine cellar, surrounded by our collection of fine South African wines, with front-row seats to the nightly parade at the waterhole.
Retire to the comfort of your luxury Suite, as the sounds of the bush lull you to sleep.
The Klaserie Nature Reserve, (approximately 60 000 hectares), is part of the Greater Kruger National Park and open to the Kruger National Park and Timbavati Private Nature Reserve.
The private game Reserve lies along the western border of the Kruger National Park with no fencing separating the reserve from Kruger or the Timbavati, allowing the animals to roam freely between the Private Game Reserves and the Kruger Park. The game in both the Kruger Park and the neighbouring reserves is essentially the same, the difference being the experience of driving in open game viewers with a professional guide and that this area is known worldwide as the area where the white lion originate from. They are born in the wild and live in this area, so the gene pool of the white lion is carried within the lions of this area.
