Only 2.5 hours drive north of Johannesburg in the beautiful Waterberg lies the African wonder that is Mabula Private Game Reserve. This 12,000-hectare of the malaria-free reserve is home to an abundance of wildlife and birdlife, including the world-famous Big Five.
Mabula is split by a service road to the South which creates two separate sections of the Mabula Private Game Reserve. In the South, there is the Madjuma section which is about 3500-hectares and is host to a phenomenal pride of Lion. This section of the reserve carries all species except for Elephant, Cheetah and Buffalo. Guests cross through a tunnel under the service road to connect between the two sections of the reserve.
The Northern territories carry all species except Lion which has allowed us to reintroduce Cheetah into this reserve. These cheetahs are thriving, and we were delighted to welcome the birth of four cubs in January 2015 which hails the first free-roaming cheetah in this area in almost fifty years.
Home to some 60 mammals, 300 bird species, 100 plant types and numerous reptile and insect species, at Mabula Game Reserve, all natures' wonders are revered. This is the Heartland of the South African Safari experience.
