Okahirongo Elephant Lodge sits atop the banks of the Hoarusib Riverbed and is an impeccably appointed base for your adventures, which include desert game drives with local guides, tracking black rhinos on foot, exploring the phenomenal clay castles and sipping sundowners as the sun sets over the dunes.
Elephant Lodge has just seven well-appointed cabins, with four-poster beds. Each room has a private terrace with a covered day bed overlooking the desert, plus a bathroom with both indoor and open-air showers. There is also a private family villa, with two bedrooms, two spectacular bathrooms, private terrace and personal lounge.
The expert Himba guides escort you on morning treks or afternoon game drives to encounter a range of desert wildlife: the emblematic elephants and lions, iconic giraffe, Hartmann's mountain zebra, and a wide variety of antelope: gemsbok, springbok, steenbok and kudu, with their unusual striped flanks and manes and the males’ distinctive spiral horns. Birdwatchers will keep their eyes peeled for native and exotic species, from large and lethal vultures to delicate bee-eaters, the distinctive Rüppell's Korhaan and Monteiro's hornbill.
Puros is situated in north west of Namibia, in Kunene region. The landscape is a mix of hills, plains, wooded river valleys and spectacular dunes and has the Khumib and Hoarusib rivers. There are only 641 people in the vast area covering 3,562 km2. Puros conservancy was registered in 2000. Wildlife includes elephant, lion, leopard, black rhino and cheetah. Income is derived from conservation hunting, crafts and tourism.
