Kaingo Camp, was established in 1992 as a Shenton Safaris’ flagship destination. Kaingo boasts five chalets and one First House - an exclusive deluxe suite, idyllically set along the Luangwa River and is a wildlife photographer’s paradise.
Kaingo features a relaxed, personal and friendly atmosphere coupled with fantastic game viewing opportunities within the prime area of the South Luangwa National Park. Everything at Kaingo has been handpicked by the Shenton family, from the camp stylish design and practical layout to the choice of local produce grown on the Shenton Plot.
The chalets were designed to transport guests safely into the vastness of the Luangwa, without a single distraction. Perfectly nestled along the banks of the river the large centrally located open-sided “Chitenge” includes a dining area, library and Kaingo’s renowned thousand-year-old lead-wood bar. Kaingo’s five standard chalets and one exclusive deluxe suite all have an incredible and private view of the Luangwa River.
Each chalet has been built with brick walls and thatch roofing and features a spacious veranda, hidden outdoor bathtub and a private deck along the Laungwa River. All are accessed by a path network that runs behind the chalets, to maximise privacy. Each chalet offers a rustic luxury design, with ample comforts and the ability to hide and get close to nature. Large fly-wired windows provide stunning views of the river and the complete absence of generator noise, means nothing but the wheeze-honk of a hippo interferes with the sounds of a lion’s roar, a leopard’s call or the early morning ‘drumming’ of the Ground Hornbill.

South Luangwa National Park is the highlight of eastern Zambia. Known to locals as simply 'the South Park,' it was initially founded as the Luangwa Game Park in 1904, and converted to one of three game reserves in 1938. The impressive park covers an area of about 9050 square kilometres of the Luangwa Valley floor and lies anywhere from 500 meters to 800 meters above sea level. With its western and northwestern edge bounded by the Muchinga Escarpment and the southern border line with the meandering Luangwa River, there's no shortage of dramatic and fascinating topography in this stunning game-rich park.
