Makumu Private Game Lodge is perfectly situated in the ‘Big Five’ Klaserie Private Nature Reserve which is one of the largest privately-owned nature reserves in South Africa, covering some 60 000 hectares and forming part of the Greater Kruger National Park. Makumu Private Game Lodge is an intimate destination in a vast wilderness, surrounded by the harshness, unpredictability and unspoiled appeal of the African bushveld. Makumu boasts six luxurious and beautifully appointed suites, accommodating a maximum of twelve guests, ensuring an exclusive blend of absolute comfort, style and privacy.

Each of the luxury suites offer a unique design and pays tribute to Africa. The suites are decorated with an eclectic vibe. All suites are large and spacious to reflect the open air and space of the African bush.

Makumu is situated above the banks of the non-perennial Dundee riverbed, the wooden-decked Boma is primarily used for evening dining. Situated under open African skies surrounded by the gentle flicker of lanterns, candlelight, and open fire. Listen closely for the far-off roar of the lion, the gentle coughing of the leopard or the hauntingly familiar call of the owl.

The Klaserie is a whole new world of the Greater Kruger National Park. From the early morning birdlife, as the sun peeks over the horizon, to the resident warthog family that frequents the lodge lawns during the day as well as the elephant herds that choose to quench their thirst in the swimming pool, there is always the possibility of a sighting.

The photographic bunker, is literally a wildlife photographers paradise! Known as iThumbela, this bunker provides the perfect opportunity for pro and amateur photographers alike to capture images at eye level with the water to take spectacular shots of wildlife visiting the watering hole.

About Klaserie Private Nature Reserve

The Klaserie Nature Reserve, (approximately 60 000 hectares), is part of the Greater Kruger National Park and open to the Kruger National Park and Timbavati Private Nature Reserve.

The private game Reserve lies along the western border of the Kruger National Park with no fencing separating the reserve from Kruger or the Timbavati, allowing the animals to roam freely between the Private Game Reserves and the Kruger Park. The game in both the Kruger Park and the neighbouring reserves is essentially the same, the difference being the experience of driving in open game viewers with a professional guide and that this area is known worldwide as the area where the white lion originate from. They are born in the wild and live in this area, so the gene pool of the white lion is carried within the lions of this area.
