Moditlo River Lodge

Moditlo River Lodge is perfectly set at the heart of the Blue Canyon Conservancy. This is a stretch of protected land close to the Greater Kruger National Park and is home to a wide range of fauna and flora. Named after the gentle beast of the Bushveld, Moditlo means ‘place of the elephant’ and you will hear them echoing throughout the lodge and its surroundings.

Designed to offer guests an authentic and luxurious African safari experience, the main area is spacious, warm and welcoming. Featuring natural wood and thatch with verandas that wrap around the different dining and entertainment areas. You will also find a crystal clear swimming pool, restaurant, curio shop, communal lounges and a bar. There are meandering walkways that lead from your room to the main area where you can enjoy a chilled drink while relaxing by the pool.

The accommodation offerings at Moditlo include 18 Luxury Rooms each built in accordance with the conservation policy. These rooms offer a cool and calm environment providing a completely luxurious experience. Each air-conditioned suite offers a private deck, tea and coffee station, a minibar and all the amenities you could possibly need.

Moditlo River Lodge offers game drives in the early morning and late afternoon when the game is most active. Game drives are conducted by experienced nature guides in open 4x4 game-viewing vehicles. Morning game drives include complimentary coffee and tea; afternoon drives include sundowners and snacks.

Little Africa Safari Lodge

Little Africa Safari Lodge is a wildlife haven and is situated in the Lowveld, just minutes away from the Greater Kruger National Park. This is the newest addition to Moditlo River Lodge and is surrounded by the iconic bushveld and unobstructed views of the Drakensberg Mountains. Little Africa is a tented lodge built in a rustic style on the banks of the Moditlo river and offers an elegant decor that envelops you in its luxurious grip.

Little Africa Safari Lodge boasts five en-suite Luxury Safari Tents with private patios and riverbed views.  Each tent is fitted with an air-conditioner to keep you cool during the warm summer days/nights and has complimentary bathroom amenities.  The tents are all wheelchair-accessible, and Tent Number 1 has a fully wheelchair-friendly shower.

The main area has an open plan lounge that offers comfortable seating to finish your favourite book or challenge the family to a board game. The infinity pool is a popular feature as it is an escape from the warm temperatures. ​​During the evenings, sitting around a bushveld fire while listening to the sounds of the wild is an absolute must to revitalise your soul and reconnect with loved ones or meet other guests. The lodge is surrounded by wild and curious animals & birds – so no matter where you choose to relax, your vantage point is perfect to experience special encounters.

About Moditlo Private Game Reserve

The Moditlo Private Game Reserve is home to large populations of elephants. Along this 3,300 hectare reserve, you will find an array of fauna and flora making this a wildlife paradise. Set within the Blue Canyon Conservancy at the foot of the famous Drakensberg mountain range, Moditlo is near the Greater Kruger National Park.

The Blue Canyon Conservancy boasts biodiversity that rivals that of many of South Africa’s premier wildlife destinations. The vegetation is made up of Northern Thornveld and Southern Bushwillow Woodlands, two distinct eco-zones that each supports an abundance of animal species.

Depending on the time of year, guests can encounter elephants, leopards, rhinos, cheetahs, hippos, as well as a pack of wild dogs (the second rarest African carnivore species, with only an estimated 2000 remaining specimens). Birdwatchers are treated to ample sightings of the several hundred species of bird typical to the Lowveld.

Scattered throughout the reserve are numerous lakes, perennial streams and dams that support the growth of large trees and underbrush, providing the perfect habitat for the wide variety of wildlife species that call Moditlo home.
