The rebirth of one of South Africa’s most loved family-centric lodges has come full circle!
Serondella Lodge has been completely reimagined, reinvigorated and elevated. This stunning contemporary lodge is situated in a private concession in the world-famous Thornybush Nature Reserve and forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park and World Heritage Site.
Perfectly situated on a riverine forest along the banks of the ephemeral Monwana River this is the ultimate of intimate game lodges. Boasting large Feverberries, Appleleaves and Boerbeans as the lodge and Suites’ background, the view over the lodge waterhole is almost always interrupted by animals that gave Serondella its name – Elephants.
The name Serondella means “The place of the Elephants” in the local isiStsonga language. The lodge is sublime in all aspects- décor, food design and hosting. And of course, exceptional game viewing safaris; by custom-designed Land Cruisers or by walking safaris. But what sets Serondella apart from many lodges, is the incredibly warm staff.
Serondella can accommodate up to 14 guests. Serondella’s original offering consisted of two one-bedroom Suites and a two-bedroom family suite, each of which has undergone a wonderful makeover. A new addition is “Willem’s Den”. This three-bedroom family Suite was previously the owner’s private retreat. After a complete transformation, it is now available to guests and features a private boma and heated plunge pool.
The suites are welcoming retreats with private decks and luxury, high-quality amenities. The contemporary Afro-Scandi décor is carried out throughout the lodge, complemented by unique Anton Smit art. The lodge has commenced an exciting culinary journey, starting with a commitment to using organic and locally sourced produce for artisanal dishes, and a wine list created under the guidance of sommelier extraordinaire Carrie Adams and David van Niekerk of High Constantia.
But a lodge is nothing without its people, and Serondella is proud of its revitalized team. Expect to be dazzled by a bright smile and a warm heart from each of its members, from the experienced guides and trackers to the fastidious housekeepers, passionate chefs and professional hosts.
Adjacent to the Greater Kruger National Park lies 11 500 hectares of the pristine African bushveld, this is the Thornybush Game Reserve.
