Nestled into the game-rich Western Lebombo Mountains in Northern Zululand, lies Sungulwane Private Game Lodge. Inspired by the Zulu word for “the view of the eye” Sungulwane Private Game Lodge overlooks the exquisite, unspoiled wilderness of Zuka Private Game Reserve.
Sungulwane is a proudly family-run business. The farm is owned by John and Bruce Morrison, and the lodge is managed by their sons Rob, Mark and Nick. The Morrison’s have resided in the area for four generations and today they have realised their lifelong dream of transforming what was once an old hunting camp into the only privately owned boutique lodge in the Mun-Ya-Wana Big Five Conservancy.
Sungulwane has 8 suites consisting of 6 two-bed chalets as well as 2 four-bed family units all complete with outside showers. One group or family are welcome to book the entire lodge therefore transforming Sungulwane into a real home away from home. Each suite is embedded into the thick Red Ivory forest giving you the feeling of sleeping in the tree canopies – in complete harmony with nature. An extensive private deck with large stack back doors and showers allow for endless stargazing or daydreaming over the uninterrupted views of the valley.
Zuka Private Game Reserve is 10,300 hectares of the Mun-Ya-Wana Conservancy, a formal Protected Area bordering a UNESCO World Heritage Site in northern KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.
Zuka Private Game Reserve’s proximity to the Indian Ocean, and the Lebombo Mountains creates dramatic topography with varied geology and soils from the ancient sea bed and historic volcanic activity; in turn supporting an array of habitats and vast biodiversity.
Zuka Private Game Reserve supports stunning biodiversity across a variety of ecosystems with Elephant, Black Rhino, White Rhino, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Cheetah and myriad species of bird, mammal, reptile and insect. Zuka Private Game Reserve is one of the three founding members of the 30,000 hectare Mun-Ya-Wana Conservancy, sharing a boundary with the 328,000 hectare Isimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The original aspiration of Zuka Private Game Reserve, to expand green frontiers and extend land under restoration from previous dereliction and deterioration, for wilderness to thrive, balanced with pioneering conservation ventures, community development and sustainability is ongoing and expanding.
