Anderssons at Ongava is your connection to the wild. With elements such as the waterhole and the nearby underground hide, you get the chance to become one with nature. Guests can enjoy a water-level view of the prolific wild and birdlife on the Ongava Private Game Reserve with a setting that promotes intimacy without intrusion.
The suites are designed as a direct extension of the landscape itself. The rock and other natural elements are used to reflect the environment and drama of Etosha. The natural stone and spacious solid build with innovative roof structure, offers guests a climate-controlled sanctuary in the bush. Design includes a private viewing deck with 180-degree panorama.
The infinity-edge swimming pool is strategically positioned to give you the best views of this untouched wilderness. The surrounding lounge area allows for relaxing in sheltered nooks with views of the waterhole and beyond.
The Anderssons at Ongava social area, where guests gather for meals and to meet fellow wildlife enthusiasts, guides and naturalists, encompasses an undercover and open-air dining area, a spacious lounge and bar, a sunken observation terrace, and open fireplaces to take away the winter chill.
Anderssons at Ongava is a photographer’s paradise. For specialist photographic parties, there is a dedicated photographic nook for review and editing of images. Completing the camp are features such as a uniquely Namibian curio shop, library, complimentary Wi-Fi, and connectivity to the research data developed over years of diligent and cutting-edge scientific endeavours on Ongava.
A short walk away with the camp’s bounds is the Ongava Research Centre where resident scientists are at home in the lab and within the Game Reserve. Guests to interface with the science and research will primarily take place at the Ongava Visitor Centre, where at their leisure, guests are encouraged to meander through the self-guided exhibition area. The adjacent 36-seat auditorium is designed for interactive presentations and discussions.
Safarihoek is set amongst an epic wilderness of vast savannah dotted with scatterings of mopane woodland and dolomite hills. This beautiful piece of Namibia is Etosha Heights Private Reserve, situated close to Etosha National Park’s southwestern border in northern Namibia. It’s dry and dusty yet totally captivating land, and the silence and solitude that pervades are poignant. Down here, the wildlife is as magnificent as it is in the national park, and there’s one key difference too. Access to the reserve is carefully restricted, allowing for exclusive and totally private wildlife experiences, free from tourist crowds and bulging 4x4s.
The impressive 60,000 hectares of classic Etosha landscape around Safarihoek Lodge is dominated by vast, flat savannah interspersed with thickets of mopane woodland, riverine forest, and scattered salt pans. The dolomite hills offer sightings of elusive mountain zebra, kudu and lion and the numerous waterholes attract large numbers of game and their feathered counterparts. The reserve is also home to numerous species of antelope including sable and black-faced impala, as well as giraffe and other plains game. In winter, aardvark and elephant sightings are not infrequent. The Etosha area is rated one of the best places on the continent to view rhino, and Etosha Heights is home to both white and black rhino. A morning spent tracking their footprints through the dust before eventually coming nose-to-horn with one of the endangered beasts is a memory not to be forgotten.
