Garonga Safari Camp is an exclusive camp ideally positioned in the greater Makalali Conservancy, west of the Kruger National Park. Garonga Safari Camp's philosophy is to offer a distinct, relaxing and holistic wilderness experience allowing you the time to reflect and find inspiration in nature.
The camp reflects the surroundings of the bush's textured earthy colours and clean lines have been incorporated with fine linen to ensure pure comfort. This is truly a "Safari for the Soul".
This private nature reserve boasts the Big 5 and guests are encouraged to take part in the insightful morning and afternoon game drives - the heart of the Garonga experience. One can also try your hand at every activity we have on offer, or you can do simply nothing at all, lazing in the hammock with a good book while watching the grazing impala.
The accommodation at Garonga Safari Camp comprises of six en-suite luxury tents ideally positioned in this exquisite safari landscape. Each of the six en-suite luxury tents is sculpted out of rough-plastered walls and overarching canvas tents. The tents overlook a dry riverbed, and have a wooden deck complete with hammock.
The Greater Makalali Private Game Reserve (GMPGR), together with the Pidwa Wilderness Reserve forms the Greater Makalali Nature Reserve (GMNR), is currently a 25,000-hectare game reserve and a registered Protected Area (PA). The GMNR is situated outside Gravelotte in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, in the triangle between Hoedspruit, Phalaborwa and Tzaneen.
The reserve overlooks the majestic Drakensberg mountain range in the Limpopo Province. It is bisected by the perennial Makhutswi River, a tributary of the Olifant’s River, and includes approximately 10 km of the Selati River frontage.
The Reserve was established to promote the conservation of the land and wildlife within its boundaries.
The reserve is home to the Big 5, with previously extirpated species including lion, elephant, rhino, hippo, cheetah, hyena, and disease-free buffalo, being reintroduced. Leopard, brown hyena, and the smaller mammal species as well as the endangered ground hornbill and the many threatened and endangered vulture and raptor species are present on the reserve.
