Mfuwe Lodge is an award-winning camp set within the Luangwa National Park. Each of the eighteen air-conditioned chalets is set beneath a canopy of ebony and mahogany trees perfectly perched around two lagoons where an endless stream of wildlife will keep you enthralled as you lounge on the open deck or take a dip in the swimming pool. The airy interior of the lodge is an exquisite complement to its natural surroundings.
This area of the park is known for its unique game viewing. Guests can enjoy sightings of giraffe, hippos, buffalo, antelope, and crocodiles who are constant visitors to Mfuwe Lodge's lagoon, whilst in November the local elephants regularly wander right through the lobby, lured by a nearby wild mango tree. With many accolades to its name, Mfuwe Lodge is the perfect destination to pair with other Zambia camps and hotels and offers guests unique experiences such as authentic bush dining and bush spa treatments.
The eighteen eco-friendly suites are scattered along two lagoons and offer guests their own private piece of Africa. All verandas are private and secluded yet you will still catch thirsty hippos wallowing in the lagoon from your deck. All rooms feature comfortable sitting rooms and en-suite bathrooms with panoramic walk-in showers creating the perfect space to wind down.
The game-viewing potential at Mfuwe Lodge and the surrounding area is second-to-none. Walking safaris can be arranged on request, but the majority of outings are game drives, allowing guests to explore as much of this prolific region of the Luangwa Valley as possible. Drives are led by experienced guides, setting out at first light, and then again in the late afternoon when the wildlife is at its most active. After sundowners, spotlights are used to pick out a new cast of nocturnal creatures.
South Luangwa National Park is the highlight of eastern Zambia. Known to locals as simply 'the South Park,' it was initially founded as the Luangwa Game Park in 1904, and converted to one of three game reserves in 1938. The impressive park covers an area of about 9050 square kilometres of the Luangwa Valley floor and lies anywhere from 500 meters to 800 meters above sea level. With its western and northwestern edge bounded by the Muchinga Escarpment and the southern border line with the meandering Luangwa River, there's no shortage of dramatic and fascinating topography in this stunning game-rich park.
