Machaton Private Camp

The Machaton Private Camp is an intimate and exclusive self-catering camp offering a secluded and private safari experience in the famous Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. The camp is for the exclusive use of 1 group at a time, so privacy is guaranteed, and allows for quality time spent with family and friends.

Accommodation is offered in 3 individual luxury suites that are carefully placed to guarantee privacy. Each Suite offers a king-size bed, a well-appointed full en-suite bathroom with a bath, a shower and twin washbasins, as well as an outdoor shower. Each suite has a day room with a sumptuous double daybed and a tea and coffee station. The suites open to a large terrace with a newly fitted plunge pool, seating and sun loungers, allowing you to retreat and refresh in secluded luxury. Six additional guests can be accommodated on the day beds in the suites, by request only.

The main thatched building in the camp features a lounge, kitchen and covered verandah, as well as a plunge pool with panoramic views of the Nhlaralumi River. The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering with a gas stove and oven, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, and coffee machine. The cosy lounge offers a selection of books and board games. Limited Wi-Fi connectivity is available. There is also a lovely boma firepit area with seating.

The camp has a low-level electric fence for safety. Safaris are conducted in Machaton Camp’s private 4x4 vehicle. Machaton Camp includes 2 housekeepers, groundsmen and a guide. Bookings can also be made to include a field guide, tracker and chef.

Here you can view the Big Five and other endangered species such as the Wild Dog and Cheetah in their natural environment. Currently, over 40 mammal species are listed as a resident in the Timbavati, including the Big 5 - Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Buffalo and Elephant, as well as endangered species including Wild Dogs and Cheetah.  There is an abundance of birdlife, with a total of 360 species of bird listed.
