Little Sable originated as an intimate photographic camp, Pangolin Camp, situated in the game-rich Khwai Private Reserve. Known as the sister camp of Sable Alley, this camp has been redesigned boasting an authentic and natural feel. Little Sable is situated in a private concession, the Khwai Private Reserve and boasts an array of wildlife. At Little Sable there is something to see around every corner and a different activity to enjoy every day. Enjoy classic game drives mokoro trips and boat safaris.
The camp features 8 Traditional Tents, allowing the owners to focus on hospitality and comfort. Each canvas tent offers a stylish yet relaxed safari experience. The tents are cosy and private boasting large King-size beds, writing desks, cool en-suite bathrooms, outside showers and private viewing decks with views across the shimmering grasslands.
At the main area, there is a bright lounge and dining area with extended outside decking and a large fire pit which makes the perfect spot for that first-morning cappuccino or an early evening Gin & Tonic. The main area is perfectly positioned in front of a popular grazing spot for zebra and elephants making it the best spot for uninterrupted game viewing. Under the thatch, the bar, lounge and dining areas are subtly stylish, offering a touch of old-world English heritage mixed with the ambience of African inspired creativity.
Little Sable is open all year round and for very good reason. Although each month has its quirks and challenges, the wildlife watching is phenomenal in every season – and of course, we wouldn’t send you if we didn’t think it was worthwhile!
Skybeds Experience
If you are looking for a truly unique way to spend time in the bush then the Skybeds experience located deep within the Khwai Private Reserve is perfect for you. Each Skybed offers a 3-story structure that overlooks the wildlife-spotted plains of Khwai. Inside you will find a bathroom with a flushing loo, a dressing area, and an enormous double bed draped in white linen and soft duvets. From here you can enjoy the African sky and nature combined in one thrilling experience.
With such spectacular skies overhead, you could be forgiven for forgetting about what’s happening down below. But keep one eye on the ground, each Skybed overlooks a busy waterhole. Guests have witnessed wild dogs, lions, elephants and hyenas all in one night.
The Skybeds experience is a one-night sleepout and is only bookable from 01 April to 31 October. This can be added to your booking and involves a helicopter transfer to Hyena Pan followed by a road transfer via the underground hide en-route to Skybeds.
Khwai Private Reserve is a 200 000 hectare private reserve positioned between the Chobe National Park and the Moremi Game Reserve. The reserve thus benefits from the through-flow of magnificent wildlife from those important and productive areas. The Khwai Private Reserve is one of the most beautifully iconic landscapes in Botswana. Mopane clusters jostle for space within riverine forest, pretty waterholes dot the floodplains, and waterways wind their way across the landscape from the mighty Khwai River.
Bursting with all signature wildlife, large herds of elephants take their bath next to hippos, whilst being watched by lechwe antelopes. Photogenic leopards, spotted hyenas and large packs of wild dogs will make the heart of any wildlife lover beat faster. Every now and then prides of lions can be seen. There are of course also uncountable bird species, especially egrets, cranes, vultures, and different species of eagles, specialising in catching catfish.
