MCH Private Tented Camp is the newest addition to the Garonga Safari Co. family. As a canvas tented camp, it embodies authentic safari style, yet has the added luxuries that make it a signature ‘safari for the soul’ experience.
MCH offers family or friend groups a private and intimate bush getaway, perfect for extended stays. If not booked out for a group, individual couples are welcome to make it home for their luxury safari stay. Perched on a kopje (little hill), you can revel in panoramic views of the wild Makalali and Drakensberg Mountains beyond. The four tents offer air-conditioning and Wi-Fi. They are fully en-suite with a sumptuous bathtub and indoor and outdoor showers. Each features a well-stocked bar and indoor lounge that flows outside onto a private deck.
A proudly fully solar-powered and self-contained camp, MCH has its own team of staff, game drive vehicle and guide for an exclusive Big 5 safari. A private Sleep Out Deck experience awaits the adventurous too. The main camp offers indoor and outdoor dining areas, along with the MCH Bush Boma and fire-pit designed to pair with delicious pre-dinner drinks.
After the morning and evening safari activities, you can laze by the pool, be pampered at the MCH Massage Sala or snuggle up with a good book by the library fireplace. For those who can't leave the office behind, the library is equipped with WiFi, a working desk with a PC and photocopier.
Garonga Safari Co's holistic 'safari for the soul' philosophy is captured in the unhurried experience. From intimate wildlife encounters to personal time to reflect in nature, our abundance of relaxing safari activities is designed to encourage exactly that. Try your hand at everything, or simply unwind in a hammock, surrounded only by the sights and sounds of the reserve.
Activities and attractions
The Greater Makalali Private Game Reserve (GMPGR), together with the Pidwa Wilderness Reserve forms the Greater Makalali Nature Reserve (GMNR), is currently a 25,000-hectare game reserve and a registered Protected Area (PA). The GMNR is situated outside Gravelotte in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, in the triangle between Hoedspruit, Phalaborwa and Tzaneen.
The reserve overlooks the majestic Drakensberg mountain range in the Limpopo Province. It is bisected by the perennial Makhutswi River, a tributary of the Olifant’s River, and includes approximately 10 km of the Selati River frontage.
The Reserve was established to promote the conservation of the land and wildlife within its boundaries.
The reserve is home to the Big 5, with previously extirpated species including lion, elephant, rhino, hippo, cheetah, hyena, and disease-free buffalo, being reintroduced. Leopard, brown hyena, and the smaller mammal species as well as the endangered ground hornbill and the many threatened and endangered vulture and raptor species are present on the reserve.
