Set amongst the dappled shade of 500-year-old ebony trees, Pioneer Camp is the culmination of five decades of design experience in the safari industry. Pioneer Camp’s three interconnected luxury suites and generous bush homestead makes this the most secluded and flexible of the Londolozi camps. The private suites have superb river views and are perfect for honeymoons and secluded getaways. The camp can easily be converted into a bush homestead for private multi-generational family groups of between 6 and 12 people.
The inspiration for the refreshed look was to weave the Ralph Lauren style into the original safari homestead resulting in the classic layering of signature textures and iconic features which reflect an African heart. Londolozi re-uses, re-engineers and restores the original feeling of an African Safari camp. Pioneer camp carries all the elements of authentic bushveld living, clean lines, simple timeless and classic elegance with a touch of crystal. A sense of history pervades the camp through faithfully restored memorabilia, photographs, leather and a bespoke one-of-a-kind wallpaper that lines the Pioneer Camp bar and tells a story of the lives of safari pioneers from just under a century ago.
The gardens reflect generations of Varty women who have worked with nature to create indigenous and meditative spaces packed with impala lilies, aloes, plumbagoes and wild figs that attract butterflies, sunbirds, and- among others- the paradise fly catcher…an African favourite.
Now boasting a refreshed ‘explorer lounge’, interactive kitchen, lookout deck, breakfast balcony and full length lap pool, Pioneer Camp is the most intimate family-run safari homestead in Southern Africa. Every touch and feature in Pioneer Camp is deeply personal. It is an ideal setting for a new generation of sophisticated travellers in search of the perfect combination of unstructured freedom and top-end experiential and personal luxury.
Adjacent to the world-renowned Kruger National Park, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve is famed for its intimate wildlife encounters, particularly leopard viewing. Home to a host of animals, including the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino), the Sabi Sand is part of a conservation area that covers over two million hectares (almost five million acres), an area equivalent to the state of New Jersey.
With no boundary fences between the Sabi Sand and the Kruger National Park, this reserve benefits from the great diversity of animals found in one of the richest wildlife areas on the African continent, along with the additional benefits experienced on a private game reserve.
Game drives traverse an area of 10 500 hectares (26 000 acres) and strict vehicle limits at sightings ensure the exclusivity of the game viewing experience. Sensitive off-road driving ensures that guests have the best possible view of any exceptional sighting and rangers are constantly in touch with each other to keep track of animal movements.
